Used Chery Cars for Sale in Australia

Chery is one of China's largest automotive manufacturers, returning to the Australian market under a directly owned subsidiary in 2023. The brand operates across two sub-brands: Omoda for passenger-focused SUVs and Jaecoo for lifestyle-oriented vehicles. The used Chery range covers a compact SUV, a full-electric crossover, and two mid-size SUVs — a complete offering for buyers who want modern specification at value-focused pricing.

Why choose a used Chery?

Chery's pitch is straightforward: strong feature content, contemporary design, and pricing that typically undercuts equivalent Japanese and Korean competitors. The lineup is entirely SUV-based, from the compact Omoda 5 through to the seven-seat Tiggo 8 Pro, with the Chery E5 adding a full-EV option for buyers whose driving patterns suit battery power.

Resale data is still accumulating given the brand's recent re-entry — an honest consideration for buyers who weight future value heavily. For those where the feature-to-price ratio leads, the used Chery range makes a clear case against used MG and used GWM in the same segment. Confirming authorised service access in your location is a sensible step before purchasing, as the network is concentrated in major metropolitan areas.

Chery Omoda 5

The used Chery Omoda 5 is the brand's volume model: a compact crossover that launched in March 2023. It is available with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol producing 108 kW and 230 Nm paired with a CVT, or a 1.6-litre turbo producing 145 kW and 290 Nm with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The 1.6T adds all-wheel drive on higher grades. Dual 10.25-inch digital screens are standard — specification that typically commands a price premium from established small SUV rivals.

Chery E5

The used Chery E5 is a fully electric crossover launched in Australia in September 2024 as the Omoda E5, renamed in 2025 as the sub-brand identities separated. It uses a 150 kW motor producing 340 Nm, a lithium iron phosphate battery, and a claimed WLTP range of 430 km, available in BX and EX trim levels. It offers an accessible entry into used electric car ownership that competes directly with used BYD in the used EV market.

Chery Tiggo 7 Pro

The used Chery Tiggo 7 Pro is Chery's mid-size SUV in Australia, launched in August 2023. It uses a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol rated at 147 kW and 290 Nm through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, with front-wheel drive on Urban and Elite grades and all-wheel drive on the Ultimate. At 4,500 mm long with a 2,670 mm wheelbase, it offers meaningfully more interior space than the Omoda 5 and competes against established Korean and Japanese mid-size SUVs.

Chery Tiggo 8 Pro

The used Chery Tiggo 8 Pro is Chery's largest model in Australia, a seven-seat mid-size SUV that arrived in May 2024. It uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol producing up to 187 kW and 390 Nm through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, with front-wheel drive standard on Urban and Elite variants and all-wheel drive on the Ultimate.

What to look for when buying a used Chery

Service history from authorised Chery centres. Chery's service network is concentrated in major cities. Confirming service history from authorised Chery or Omoda dealers gives the most confidence in powertrain condition, particularly for dual-clutch transmission servicing on the Tiggo 7 Pro, Tiggo 8 Pro, and 1.6T Omoda 5.

Dual-clutch transmission behaviour. The 7-speed DCT fitted to the Tiggo 7 Pro, Tiggo 8 Pro, and 1.6T Omoda 5 performs best when serviced at the correct intervals. When test-driving, confirm the transmission changes smoothly at low speeds. Hesitation or shudder can indicate maintenance gaps or early wear.

Battery condition on the Chery E5. Lithium iron phosphate batteries are known for longevity, but any used EV requires a range check. Ask about charging habits, confirm no fault codes in the battery management system, and verify current range against the 430 km WLTP figure.

Getting your finance confirmed before comparing used Chery cars in stock removes a variable from the decision. Carma's car finance gives you a clear budget with same-day approval and no impact on your credit score.

Frequently asked questions

Is a used Chery a reliable car in Australia?

Long-term reliability data is still building given the brand's 2023 re-entry. Early owner feedback has been broadly positive for the Omoda 5 and Tiggo 7 Pro. A complete service history from authorised Chery or Omoda centres is the most reliable indicator of condition.

What is the difference between the Omoda 5 and the Chery E5?

The used Chery Omoda 5 is a petrol-powered compact crossover available with 1.5T or 1.6T engines. The used Chery E5 is a fully electric crossover with a 150 kW motor, a lithium iron phosphate battery, and a claimed WLTP range of 430 km. The E5 requires charging rather than refuelling and has different servicing requirements.

How does used Chery for sale in Australia compare to used MG and GWM?

Used Chery for sale in Australia occupies a similar value-focused position to used MG and used GWM Haval. Chery differentiates on bold exterior design, dual-screen cabin technology, and a broader powertrain choice including a dedicated full-electric model. MG has a longer track record in Australia; GWM Haval's Jolion and H6 have larger used market volumes given their earlier launch.

Does the used Chery Tiggo 8 Pro have a third row of seats?

The used Chery Tiggo 8 Pro is configured with seven seats across three rows as standard on all variants. The third row suits occasional adult use or regular child use. All-wheel drive is available on the Ultimate grade; Urban and Elite grades are front-wheel drive.

Is Chery well supported in Australia for parts and servicing?

Chery's service network has expanded since 2023 and covers authorised dealers in most major metropolitan areas. Parts availability has improved as the local fleet has grown. Coverage in some regional areas is still building, so confirming local service access before purchasing is worthwhile.
