Used Toyota Camry buying guide
The Toyota Camry is a stylish, mid-size sedan that delivers great value for any lifestyle.
Its performance as an exciting daily driver always impresses, and it looks stylish inside and out. The hybrid engines available across the Camry range are both frugal and enjoyable-to-run, enough to sway many buyers from tough competition like the Mazda 6 and Kia Cerato. The Camry also has an exceptional track record for reliability and dependability. When regularly maintained, a Camry can last more than 500,000 km. So a used Toyota Camry is a solid choice if you’re looking for a car that can go the distance.

Which Toyota Camry model should I choose?
There’s more than one type of model when you’re looking to buy a used Toyota Camry. Here’s a quick overview of the range.
Camry Ascent
All Camry models have a choice of two powertrains: The FWD 6-speed auto 2.5L Dual VVT-i 4-cylinder petrol engine (7.8L/100km), or the FWD CVT 2.5L hybrid engine (4.2L/100km). The Ascent comes equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, electric park brake, steering wheel controls, bluetooth connectivity, and Toyota Safety Sense suite. You’ll also get keyless entry and start if you go for the hybrid version. For a base model, the Ascent is packed full of value, with a solid suite of safety tech and convenient designs.
Camry Ascent Sport
The Ascent Sport adds a few more features like a sports front grille, rear bumper and side skirts, premium steering wheel and gear level, keyless entry and start (for petrol models), satellite navigation, and front and rear clearance sensors. With ‘sport’ in its name, you can certainly expect a more athletic build and drive from the Ascent Sport.
Camry SX
The petrol version of the SX offers a choice of either the standard 6-speed auto 2.5L Dual VVT-i 4-cylinder engine or a 8-speed auto 3.5L Dual VVT-iW V6 engine for a performance boost. It also has 19-inch alloy wheels, and adds paddle shift controls, wireless phone charger and two rear USB charging points, rear lip spoiler, sports leather accented seats, and an optional panoramic glass roof. The same sportiness is ramped up on the SX, and firmer suspension for better handling. This makes the SX a balanced all-rounder, with a refined and comfortable drive.
Camry SL
The range-topping SL also offers two petrol powertrain options, and a CVT 2.5L Dual VVT-iE hybrid engine. Along with everything included in the SX, you’ll get ventilated front seats, leather accented seats with lumbar support, power tilt and telescopic steering wheel, rain sensing wipers, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert. The SL is the most kitted-out version of the Camry, and it’s hard to look past the comfort, space, and sheer value it offers.
Is a used Toyota Camry a safe car?
Toyota Safety Sense is standard across the Camry range, where drivers are protected by features like road sign assist, pre-collision safety system, active cruise control, and lane departure alert. Since 2011, all Toyota Camry cars have recorded the maximum 5-star ANCAP rating.
